Higher costs and lower prices for lead and zinc helped pushed down Volcan Compania Minera SAA's (VOLCABC1.VL) first-quarter net income to $70.8 million, compared with $76.2 million in the same period a year earlier.

The company posted sales of $289.8 million in the first quarter compared with $262.9 million in the same period a year earlier.

In the third quarter the company produced 82,123 metric tons of zinc, 5.4 million ounces of silver, and 17,623 tons of lead.

Volcan's mining operations are located in the central Andean departments of Junin and Pasco.
